Indonesia banned nickel ore exports in 2020 and now controls the fastest-growing nickel supply chain. Indonesia (48%) and Philippines (12%) dominate mined supply. Russia's Norilsk Nickel (Nornickel) produces ~7% of global nickel and ~35% of high-purity Class 1 nickel used for stainless steel and EV batteries. Indonesia's HPAL (High Pressure Acid Leach) plants supply battery-grade nickel for EV manufacturers directly.
