MCX Crude surges +2.44% on sustained rupee weakness

WHAT HAPPENED MCX Crude rallied to 8348 INR/bbl at 14:15 IST, posting a +2.44% gain and recapturing the 8275 INR/bbl intraday high logged at 14:23 IST on 20 January. The rebound reverses the −2.28% pullback to 7658 INR/bbl recorded at 09:30 IST and extends recovery momentum from the 7918 INR/bbl close at 21:26 IST yesterday. USD/INR weakness at 95.04 (−0.21%) continues to underpin rupee-denominated crude, offsetting softer precious metals across gold and silver.

WHAT IT MEANS Crude has now reclaimed the 8300+ zone after intraday volatility, signalling renewed bullish positioning as rupee depreciation supports import parity. Cross-asset weakness in gold (−1.22%) and silver (−1.41%) suggests selective commodity strength driven by currency rather than broad-based risk appetite. Traders should monitor whether this reflects demand-side momentum or technical mean reversion toward 8275 resistance.

WHAT TO WATCH Break above 8350 INR/bbl would test the 8400 round level. Failure to sustain above 8300 risks retest of 8146 support logged at 20:39 IST yesterday.
