Dhanteras Week Meets a COMEX Breakdown: MCX's Parity Wedge Is the Variable
India's biggest retail gold-buying window opens Nov 6-8 just as COMEX gold and silver break sharply lower — and MCX's unusually wide import-parity wedge sits in the middle.

The catalyst
The dominant catalyst for the coming week is not a central bank meeting or a supply disruption. It is calendar-driven and India-specific: Dhanteras falls on 6 November 2026 and Diwali on 8 November 2026 — the single most concentrated retail gold-and-silver demand window in the Indian year, the day jewellers see their highest single-day footfall.
What makes this year's window a genuine catalyst rather than a seasonal footnote is what it is colliding with. In the latest snapshot (31 Oct, 03:39 IST), COMEX Gold fell 3.63% to $3,884.9/oz and COMEX Silver fell 5.86% to $49.14/oz overnight — a disorderly repricing of the offshore benchmark. Meanwhile MCX Gold barely moved, at ₹138,419/10g (-0.05%), and MCX Silver at ₹178,900/kg (-0.13%).
That gap is the story. The derived import-parity figures put fair-value MCX Gold at ₹118,994/10g (a 16.32% spread) and MCX Silver at ₹150,516/kg (an 18.86% spread). Those wedges are not only large, they are inconsistent with each other: the snapshot carries an explicit PARITY_WEDGE_DIVERGENCE warning flagging a 2.54-point gap against a 2-point tolerance, with the note that one leg of one feed — MCX or COMEX side — is likely stale or wrong.
So the week's central question is mechanical, not directional: does the domestic price converge toward offshore, does offshore bounce toward domestic, or does festival physical demand legitimately hold the premium wide? Dhanteras week is precisely when that question gets answered with real order flow rather than screen prices.
What changed this week
The precious complex spent the week losing its bid. Coverage dated 29 October flagged MCX Silver down 2.77% on dollar strength, then a 30 October note recorded a 5.13% silver drawdown attributed to industrial-cycle fears touching solar and semiconductor demand — the gold-silver ratio now sits at 79.1. The 28 October Fed items — a cut to 2027 guidance and an inflation signal — were explicitly framed as repricing gold, silver, crude and copper along the rate path.
