MCX Crude surges +6.85% as geopolitical supply risk reignites

WHAT HAPPENED MCX Crude pierced 9722 INR/bbl at 12:10 am IST, extending a +6.85% intraday rally that built on successive peaks logged at 9560 INR/bbl (18:23 IST), 9264 INR/bbl (14:33 IST), and 9083 INR/bbl (19:19 IST). The multi-leg recovery sequence initiated at 7918 INR/bbl at 21:26 IST yesterday continues to push higher. USD/INR strengthened to 95.53 (+0.38%), amplifying rupee-denominated crude costs and compounding upside pressure amid geopolitical supply tightness.

WHAT IT MEANS The breach past 9700 INR/bbl consolidates a 22.7% rally from yesterday's low and signals sustained bullish momentum in crude positioning. Cross-asset weakness in copper (−3.49%) and gold (−1.02%) frames crude as the dominant risk-on play. The USD/INR uptick reinforces import-cost headwinds for refiners, locking in higher hedging costs for downstream players.

WHAT TO WATCH The 9750–9800 INR/bbl band remains the critical resistance zone. A close above 9750 would confirm momentum extension; a reversal below 9600 INR/bbl would test the 9560 intraday peak support.
