MCX Natural Gas Surges +2.12% on Rupee Weakness

MCX Natural Gas Surges +2.12% on Rupee Weakness

WHAT HAPPENED MCX Natural Gas rallied to 284.2 INR/mmBtu at 07:35 pm IST, gaining +2.12% from the previous close. The move marks a continuation of volatile price action within the session, with the rupee weakening +2.12% to 95.53 INR against the dollar. Crude Oil supported sentiment at +0.42% to 7930 INR/bbl, while precious metals retreated—Gold at 158320 INR/10g (-0.84%) and Silver at 238841 INR/kg (-0.33%).

WHAT IT MEANS The rupee depreciation is the primary tailwind for natural gas, which trades as a dollar-denominated commodity. For MCX futures traders, this currency headwind masks any underlying demand weakness, creating a currency-driven rally rather than fundamental strength. The intraday range (263.6–284.2 INR/mmBtu) shows persistent two-way positioning, typical of inventory-driven volatility.

WHAT TO WATCH Critical resistance at 285–286 INR/mmBtu will signal whether the rupee-driven move sustains or reverses. A close below 280 would reignite downside pressure.
