MCX Crude rallies on supply risk premium
WHAT HAPPENED MCX Crude extended gains to 8035 INR/bbl at 01:10 pm IST, up +1.13% from the previous close. The move reflects sustained geopolitical supply concerns supporting global oil prices. Silver outpaced peers with a +1.15% jump to 218894 INR/kg, while copper climbed +0.59% to 1310 INR/kg. Natural gas declined -1.74% to 276.8 INR/mmBtu. The rupee weakened marginally by -0.23% to 96.43 INR against the dollar, offering marginal tailwind to rupee-denominated commodity prices.
WHAT IT MEANS Crude remains bid on structural supply anxiety, building on the +2.76% spike to 8164 INR/bbl recorded at 11:54 am IST. For MCX futures traders, the 8000–8050 zone is holding as a consolidation range, with broader cross-asset strength in precious metals signalling risk-on sentiment offsetting softer natural gas. Rupee stability near 96.43 INR keeps import parity competitive for refiners.
WHAT TO WATCH The 8050–8100 resistance band remains critical. A break above 8100 INR/bbl would confirm fresh upside momentum; failure to hold 8000 would signal mean reversion into the prior trading corridor.
