Silver rallies 1.11% on weak dollar; gold, copper follow reflation bid

WHAT HAPPENED

MCX precious metals posted a broad rally overnight as the US/EU session closed: Silver +1.11% to ₹222,100/kg, Gold +0.75% to ₹144,199/10g, and Copper +0.70% to ₹1,249.90/kg. The moves signal renewed appetite for hard assets amid dollar weakness in offshore markets, with USD/INR holding at ₹94.39.

WHAT IT MEANS

Dollar depreciation mechanically lifts rupee-denominated commodity prices because MCX contracts are priced in INR but globally arbitraged against USD-quoted spot. A weaker dollar reduces the import-parity cost: if global silver trades at ~$32/oz and USD/INR falls from 94.50 to 94.30, the INR price floor compresses, but local demand for physical hedges rises as rupee strength improves purchasing power. Silver's 1.11% gain outpacing gold's 0.75% suggests rotation into the more volatile precious metal on reflation expectations (CRB commodity index strength).

WHO IS AFFECTED

Silver refiners and jewellery exporters (GITC members, Rajesh Masrani Group units) benefit from higher INR/kg realizations on forward sales, though their cost-of-goods remains indexed to global dollar spot. Silver-intensive industrial users—photography chemicals, electronics, solar wafer makers—face higher procurement hedges. Physical bullion dealers and retail investors repositioning into fractional allocations will anchor bids higher.

BOTTOM LINE

Commodity reflation, not rupee strength alone, is driving the multi-metal rally. Confirmation requires US real yields to weaken further or China demand signals to firm.

WHAT TO WATCH

US CPI release (Tuesday 1 July, 12:30 IST) and ECB speakers over the weekend—a softer-than-expected inflation print would extend the dollar downtrend and validate the rally into MCX's Monday open.
